Hong Kong toy brand threezero's robot die-cast articulated series, "ROBO-DOU," today announced the latest product from the anime "Voltron: Defender of the Universe" (Golion), the "Voltron (Metallic Edition)," which is scheduled for limited release at events such as the "Taipei International Film & Toy Festival and Toy Creators Exhibition," "ACGHK (Ani-Com & Games Hong Kong)," and "Seoul POPCON" in the third quarter of 2023.
The colossal robot Voltron, formed by the combination of five space mechanical lions, is a legendary robot from the anime "Voltron: Defender of the Universe" (Golion), produced by Toei Japan and broadcast in 1981, with an unknown creator. Voltron once rampaged through the universe in ancient times, but was fortunately subdued and sealed by the Goddess of the Universe. Thousands of years later, Princess Allura, the sole survivor of the Kingdom of Arus, unsealed Voltron and entrusted it to five imprisoned Earth youths to pilot, launching a counterattack against the Galra Empire, which had invaded and massacred numerous planetary civilizations.
The "ROBO-DOU Voltron (Metallic Edition)" retains the highly acclaimed design of the regular version, utilizing composite materials such as ABS, PVC, POM, and die-cast parts to recreate the five mechanical lions in black, red, green, yellow, and blue. Each mechanical lion features 20 to 34 die-cast articulated points, and when combined into Voltron, which stands approximately 27 cm tall, it boasts a total of 124 articulated joints. The key difference from the regular version is the complete reapplication of metallic-textured paint across the entire figure, with red, green, blue, and yellow all rendered in metallic colors, significantly enhancing its sense of heft and presence.
The accessories also include a rich array of armaments that can be equipped in the mouths, on the shoulders, and on the backs of each mechanical lion, as well as signature weapons used when combined as Voltron, such as the "Blazing Sword" (Jūōken) and "Spinning Laser Blade." With the highly flexible articulated joints throughout the body, dynamic poses such as high kneeling, flying kicks, sword swings, and powerful special attack stances can be achieved!
