Today, the popular die-cast toy series 'METAL BUILD', released by BANDAI SPIRITS' collector's toy division TAMASHII NATIONS in Japan, announced its latest product based on "Evangelion": the "EVANGELION Unit-01 -STORE LIMITED EDITION-". It is scheduled for exclusive sale at the official flagship store "TAMASHII NATIONS STORE" starting November 2023.
The "METAL BUILD EVA Unit-01", released in 2019, was designed by Ikuto Yamashita. Its styling is significantly different from previous EVA versions, conceived with the concept of a "giant with steel muscles" and incorporating the characteristics of the METAL BUILD series. Its body proportions are similar to the human form, with many joints such as elbows, hips, and knees made of die-cast material. Coupled with delicate metallic paintwork, the overall skeleton and muscles present a mechanical texture composed of various metals, transforming the original impression of an "artificial human" made of flesh. Its excellent die-cast movable joints, armor design closer to a "weapon," and innovative weaponry were all highly praised upon release.
This limited edition, while featuring a new outer box design, has essentially the same content and styling as the previously released standard version. In fact, it even reduces some parts, such as the Counter Sword blade and sheath, replacement parts for the Electromagnetic Rifle, the head part with goggles, and additional calf armor. The official explanation states that this trade-off was made to allow consumers to acquire it at a lower price. However, the actual price for this set is the same as the 2019 complete version, 24,200 JPY (tax included). The reality is that due to global inflation and rising costs in recent years, if it were sold with the same content, the price would certainly exceed the original price from four years ago.
