The new "Yu-Gi-Oh!" model kit, "Figure-rise Standard Amplified Exodia the Forbidden One," which was announced in March this year, has finally been officially released on August 5th after nearly five months of anticipation. BANDAI SPIRITS Japan's HOBBY Division promptly released an unboxing, assembly, and more detailed explanation of the actual product.
First, looking at the product box art, the outer box for this "Figure-rise Standard Amplified Exodia the Forbidden One" is not only quite large, but the box art also features a close-up of Exodia unleashing its ultimate attack, "Obliterate!!!", perfectly matching the massive canvas and full of power!
The overall design of the "Figure-rise Standard Amplified Exodia the Forbidden One" is a reinterpretation based on the original image. Once assembled, it stands at an impressive 21 cm tall, giving it more presence compared to the previously released Blue-Eyes White Dragon. This time, Bandai has also utilized its astonishing parts molding technology to infuse the Forbidden One with high-density detail that was absent in the original design.
Compared to the original illustration's design, which resembled an exoskeleton combined with human muscles, the Amplified version, aside from the facial features and exaggerated abdominal muscles, appears to be clad in heavy armor across its entire body. Particularly on the limbs and lower body, it features mechanical layering and sharp edges. The surfaces of this armor are further etched with numerous elegant geometric patterns and ancient script, and even the soles of its feet, usually unseen, boast three-dimensional patterns reminiscent of stele murals, presenting a powerful and mysterious appearance.
Another highlight is the excellent parts separation technology and the use of numerous pre-molded parts. Aside from the chin markings, the entire body is reproduced using various plastic molding colors such as earthy yellow, gold, red, dark blue, white, dark brown, and metallic copper. This includes the gold and red stripes on the head and the gold stripes throughout the body, all of which can be recreated with a straight build, allowing even beginners to easily assemble a cool Exodia!
The metallic copper molded color used for the chains that seal Exodia on its limbs looks quite beautiful. Each part utilizes a C-clip design, making assembly very convenient and preventing them from easily falling off.
Since Exodia is not only massive in size but its limb parts are also heavier due to the added chain components, important joints such as the shoulders, hip joints, and hands feature a ratchet-type bearing design. This strengthens the joint integrity of the limbs, preventing issues like arms failing to hold poses or difficulty standing. Furthermore, the shoulder joints incorporate a double-joint design, and the shoulder armor features a two-axis movable design, significantly enhancing the range of motion for the arms.
