BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd.'s collector's toy division, TAMASHII NATIONS, today announced detailed information for the latest product from the popular die-cast toy series 'METAL BUILD', the "Freedom Gundam CONCEPT 2 SNOW SPARKLE Ver.", originating from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. This item will be released as a commemorative product for the opening of the annual TAMASHII NATIONS brand exhibition, 'TAMASHII NATION 2023'.
The "METAL BUILD Freedom Gundam CONCEPT 2", released in 2020, was redesigned by the team of Yoichi Sakamoto, Koma, Hiroyuki Hirose, and Masahiro Ishikawa. It was conceived as an intermediate form between the METAL BUILD Strike Gundam and Strike Freedom Gundam, incorporating the production experience and design styles of both products to create a brand new "Wings of Freedom". The entire mobile frame is constructed with numerous alloy parts, providing not only an excellent weighty feel during play but also robust and flexible articulated joints. Furthermore, it inherits the chest armor design, calf thruster deployment structure, and highly articulated knee joints from the MB Strike Freedom Gundam.
The new blue and black alternating wings on the back also incorporate features from the MB Strike Freedom Gundam, with five slender and sharp wings designed on each side. Metal pivots are used to maintain strength, allowing them to fan out to the sides. The "Balaena" Plasma Beam Cannons between the wings utilize a three-axis movable base made of alloy, allowing the wings to spread outwards while the cannons pivot forward for firing, creating a more dynamic and imposing silhouette than the previous version. Combined with the "Xiphias" Railguns deployed from the waist, the powerful "Full Burst Mode" stance can be recreated.
This SNOW SPARKLE version has been re-supervised by Satoshi Shigeta, the mechanical animation director for the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED anime series. The entire mobile suit is re-finished with a cool, ice-like color scheme. Compared to the original version, the main body's white armor features additional light blue and blue-gray blocks, adding more depth. The lower half of the wing parts are finished with a brilliant metallic blue coating, creating a contrast with the grayish-white main body and giving a more magnificent impression when the wings are deployed.
