Celebrating its 50th anniversary! Japan's renowned prototype manufacturer "M.I.C. (MIC Co., Ltd.)", under its newly established original toy brand "DIG" (ディーアイジー), is set to release a series of collectible figurines based on the classic fishing anime series "Fisherman Sanpei" in December 2023! The set includes four different styles, priced at 19,800 JPY.
The classic Japanese fishing manga "Fisherman Sanpei" (釣りキチ三平) was created by the late Japanese manga artist Takao Yaguchi. It debuted in "Weekly Magazine" in 1973, ran for 10 years, and was compiled into 67 volumes (65 main story volumes + 2 extra story volumes), with an anime adaptation in 1980. Takao Yaguchi drew upon his own fishing experiences to create this work, which is substantial in content and incorporates educational elements. It had a significant impact on the manga industry and stands as a prime example of nature-themed manga. The story follows the protagonist, "Sanpei Mihira" (Japanese: みひら さんぺい), a naive and lively boy who, influenced by his grandfather Ippei Mihira, possesses an immense passion for fishing, boasts exceptional skills, and loves to travel around challenging himself to catch difficult fish.
This series of "DIGSTA Fisherman Sanpei" figurines, released by DIG, features four different styles. These include protagonist Sanpei Mihira in a joyful pose after catching a King Salmon (キングサーモン), his determined look while reeling in his catch, the fishing gentleman "Gyoshin Ayukawa" who cares for Sanpei like a strict father or older brother, and Sanpei's neighbor, "Yuri Takayama" (Yurippe), who loves to bicker with him. Each figurine stands approximately 13-17 cm tall and is incredibly detailed. DIG utilizes unique digital printing technology to meticulously recreate the fish scales, achieving an extremely high level of realism. The characters' poses and various features are also faithfully rendered, just as they appear in the original work, as if witnessing Sanpei's heroic fishing prowess once again.
