BANDAI SPIRITS Collectors Division in Japan today announced the latest product from the transforming alloy toy "DX Chogokin" series, the "Armored Nightmare Plus EX (Alto Saotome's Unit) Revival Ver." from "Macross Frontier," scheduled for release in January 2024.
The VF-171EX Armored Nightmare Plus EX is the variable fighter piloted by Alto Saotome, the protagonist of the TV series "Macross Frontier," in the latter half of the story. It was enhanced based on the VF-171 to combat the alien creatures Vajra, featuring a new engine, new energy conversion armor, new anti-beam vaporization coating, and other performance upgrades. It also comes equipped with an armored backpack containing additional armor and engines, an MDE Particle Anti-Gravity Cannon, large anti-ship missiles for aircraft carriers, and various other anti-Vajra armaments.
The "DX Chogokin Armored Nightmare Plus EX (Alto Saotome's Unit) Revival Ver." is based on a modified VF-171 main unit previously released and will be sold bundled with the complete set of armored parts. The main unit's molding color and paintwork have been adjusted, with the saturation of the white armor and red-black lines reduced to give the colors a more realistic appearance. Additionally, the markings on various parts of the fuselage have been changed to new, original markings for the Revival Ver. version.
The precisely articulated frame is constructed with alloy parts, featuring a three-stage transformation mechanism that allows for the recreation of FIGHTER, GERWALK, and BATTROID modes without the need for part swapping. The articulated design enables the cockpit and landing gear to deploy in FIGHTER mode, a stable, wide-stance landing pose in GERWALK mode, and flexible articulation of the torso and limbs in BATTROID mode. Accessories also include a dedicated display stand, 3 pairs of interchangeable hands, and a pilot figure, assisting the main unit in recreating various scenes.
In terms of armaments, in addition to the basic GUNPOD, it also includes the heavy armored additional armor, as well as various anti-Vajra weapons such as the MDE Particle Anti-Gravity Cannon / 30mm MDE Machine Gun for Vajra, large anti-ship missiles for aircraft carriers, medium-range anti-air missiles, 6-tube high-speed armor-piercing rocket launchers, and short-range high-mobility anti-air missiles. These can be equipped in all three forms, recreating the impressive enhanced mode!
