The content of this special exhibition, as its name "DAILY SKETCH SHOW!" suggests, revolves around sketch illustrations. "I love drawing, just as much as I love creating toys," said Mr. Takeuchi. He prepared a rich collection of works drawn over the period from February 15, 2022, to February 14, 2023, which are boldly displayed across the walls of Paradise. Among these numerous artworks, beyond the strong skull theme, one can also glimpse Mr. Takeuchi's interpretations of his personal interests, street trends, and more. These include the Imperial Terror Lord drawn on May 4th, the Skull Dad accompanied by three cats on August 8th, and the Halloween pumpkin on October 31st.
In addition to the flat sketch illustrations, this exhibition also features a rich lineup of soft vinyl toys. These include the "Dokuro Dai Shogun" with its black and silver paintwork and overwhelming presence, the "DOKURO SAURER" predominantly in orange and green, the glow-in-the-dark "Curry Man (カレーマン) Luminous," the adorable ghost character "Omake no Obake," and the distinctively styled mushrooms (MMMR, Magic Mystery Mush Room), all available for sale at the venue. Coupled with exhibition-exclusive T-shirts, posters, art books, and more, Mr. Takeuchi's creative energy from over the years is fully conveyed through various facets, making it truly spectacular.
This time, we at Toy People were delighted to have the opportunity to ask Mr. Takeuchi our classic question, "What are toys to you?" Mr. Takeuchi simply turned around, pulled out his brush pouch from his backpack, and seemingly without a second thought, began to draw. In an instant, he completed this signature artwork, full of his unique personal style. We immediately wanted to hang this piece on the wall for display too (laughs).
