Produced by Japan's PLEX company and distributed by X-PLUS company, the soft vinyl figure series themed on Toho special effects monsters, "Toho 30cm Series," recently officially announced a new enhanced sub-series, "Super Toho 30cm Series." The first product will be "Godzilla (1999)," which appeared in "Godzilla 2000 Millennium," scheduled for release in December 2023. This product is currently exclusively sold at the official GODZILLA STORE.
Godzilla (1999), also known as "Millennium Godzilla," stands 55 meters tall. In its lore, it is the second Godzilla to land in Japan after the original Godzilla in 1954. It can emit a powerful orange heat ray, and the Organizer G1 substance (G-cells) within its body possesses strong regenerative capabilities. Millennium Godzilla's design underwent significant changes compared to the Showa and Heisei series, with a dark green body color, a reptile-like large mouth, and even larger dorsal fins with sharp, flame-like shapes, featuring purple tips for the first time.
The "Super Toho 30cm Series" utilizes the latest modern 3D scanning technology to construct 3D models from the actual suits used for filming back then, compensating for intricate details that are difficult to reproduce through manual sculpting. Furthermore, craftsmen who were responsible for the movie monster designs at the time were invited to supervise and produce the figures, allowing the models to closely resemble their on-screen counterparts.
This "Godzilla (1999)" figure was created by scanning the restored Millennium Godzilla suit and produced as a 30cm tall model under the supervision of sculptor Shinichi Wakasa. The overall color painting was also personally guided by Mr. Shigemasa Yoshida, who was responsible for painting the suit at the time. The overall pose thoroughly recreates the image from the movie poster, restoring the fierce, upward-gazing eyes, the suit's body proportions which differ from a real creature, and the spiky, jet-black skin. The characteristic flame-like dorsal fins are also painted with metallic red to reproduce their cool colors from the film.
