Kotobukiya (KOTOBUKIYA), a Japanese model manufacturer, recently officially announced the full details of the first product, "Principal / Sword Dancer," from its brand new original model kit series, "Infinite Encounter Megalo Maria". It is scheduled for release in February 2024.
The new series, "Infinite Encounter Megalo Maria," differs from Kotobukiya's previous products featuring bishoujo-style humans and mecha girls. It adopts a new base body, "Marionette Style," with a humanoid puppet appearance, emphasizing "articulation" and "expressiveness." Its unique composite worldview connects Kotobukiya's various model kit series in a "story-within-a-story" format, allowing for infinite possibilities in play. For example, in the world of "Sousai Shojo Teien," "Megalo Maria" is a tokusatsu series, and the tokusatsu hero transformed by the protagonist, Maria Kagari, is the "Principal / Sword Dancer" being released this time.
The first product, "Principal / Sword Dancer," is a non-scale model kit with a height of approximately 16 cm. Most of its main body parts are manufactured in Japan. It features approximately 50 points of articulation throughout the body, including highly flexible shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee joint designs that allow the figure to perform extremely fluid, lifelike movements. Furthermore, several universal 3mm hardpoints are located throughout the body, enabling parts interchangeability with other Kotobukiya model kit products. The head expression and front hair parts can even be swapped with the "Sousai Shojo Teien" series, greatly expanding playability.
In addition to strengthening these basic joint articulation designs, the "Marionette Style" base body also incorporates many new elements not found in previous products. These include a choice between left and right independent hip armor for enhanced articulation or a single-piece design that prioritizes aesthetics, a triple-jointed wrist structure that can bend 180 degrees to replicate the deployment of internal weapon connection points, and an experimental movable eyeball mask part that allows for free adjustment of the eye's gaze using the dagger's hilt.
