GOOD SMILE COMPANY's "Blind Box Collection" series from Japan will release its latest product, "Pingu - Emotion Collection!", based on the classic claymation series "Pingu"! There will be six different styles, with a suggested retail price of 1,300 JPY per box, and an estimated release in January 2024.
Pingu the penguin, who only communicates with "penguin language" making "ba-ba-ba" sounds, is a shared memory for Taiwanese born in the 70s and 80s. Although its picture book creator, Antonio Lupatelli, passed away in 2018, the penguin's image in the "Pingu" claymation series remains widely popular. Beyond nostalgic sentiments, "Pingu" has recently become a trending topic again due to internet memes pointing out that "Pingu's feet strongly resemble mullet roe."
The "Pingu - Emotion Collection!" blind box figures recreate Pingu's neat and adorable appearance in sizes ranging from 5 to 7 cm, and through six different poses and expressions, they perfectly capture its lively and humorous personality – including its signature wave, happy "ba-ba," clapping, angry clenched fists, crying from a sore bottom, and adorably scratching its head – super fun!
