Having released numerous classic super robots, featuring "large size" and "articulation" as its selling points, the "GABM" (GRAND ACTION BIGSIZE MODEL) series of toys from Japanese toy company EVOLUTION TOY is scheduled to release a large, articulated collectible toy of the enemy mechanical beast character "Doublas M2" (ダブラスＭ2) from the classic robot anime "Mazinger Z" in April 2024! Priced at 39,380 JPY.
Created by the renowned manga artist Go Nagai, "Mazinger Z" (マジンガーＺ, also translated as "Demon God Z") is undoubtedly a well-known work for many, and a beautiful childhood memory. The work was first serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" in February 1972, and then animated and broadcast on television in October of the same year. It later received considerable acclaim when broadcast worldwide, achieving an astonishing 80% viewership in European countries like Spain and Italy (Spain even has a large statue of Mazinger Z), demonstrating its extraordinary appeal.
▼ First Edition TV Anime Opening Theme Video for "Mazinger Z":
In the original story, the two-headed monster Doublas M2 and the mechanical beast Garada K7 were the first enemies Koji Kabuto faced while piloting Mazinger Z. Standing 18 meters tall, its most prominent feature is its two long-necked heads. Both heads can emit beams of light, or extend their necks to entangle enemies and deliver electric shocks. However, it was ultimately defeated by Mazinger Z's Photon Beam, becoming the first casualty. Because it and Garada K7 consistently appeared in the opening sequence, it was jokingly called the most pathetic mechanical beast (getting destroyed every week). It also appeared frequently as a minor enemy in other related works and games, sharing high visibility with Garada K7.
This Doublas M2 mechanical beast from EVOLUTION TOY's GABM series also stands 45 cm tall, maintaining the series' signature articulation. Accessories include neck extension parts, allowing for extended neck poses. It also comes with a mini figure of Dr. Hell (Dr.ヘル).
