"TOMICA," the die-cast miniature car series launched by Japanese toy company TAKARA TOMY, has collaborated with the highly popular Studio Ghibli to release numerous products. Today, they officially announced the latest 10th installment: "Dream TOMICA Spirited Away No-Face"! The suggested retail price is 1,320 JPY, and it is scheduled for release in mid-January 2024 in Japan.
The "Dream TOMICA Studio Ghibli" series faithfully recreates classic vehicles from the films as palm-sized die-cast miniature cars, combining their cute in-story designs with die-cast vehicle engineering. The 10th installment features the super popular "Spirited Away" as its theme, depicting the important character No-Face from the latter half of the story, paddling a basin boat to follow the protagonist Chihiro to the water train! The lower half of No-Face is recreated using a slightly transparent material, while the basin boat is made from die-cast material to give it a sense of weight. However, the bottom features transparent tires, conveying the light and effortless feeling of paddling on water.
