Previously announced to be released by BANDAI SPIRITS' collector's toy division TAMASHII NATIONS under the 'METAL ROBOT SPIRITS' series of alloy movable finished models, the new "Freedom Gundam (Real Type Color)" and "Justice Gundam (Real Type Color)" from 《Mobile Suit Gundam SEED》 are confirmed to be launched as commemorative products at the 'Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Series Exhibition' starting January 18, 2024. Sales methods will be announced at a later date.
The theme of these products, "Real Type Color," originates from the color scheme used by the original Gundam mechanical designer Kunio Okawara on the 1981 《Mobile Suit Gundam》 movie poster. Unlike the toy-like vibrant colors seen in the anime, this scheme utilizes practical military-inspired paint colors such as dark green, sand yellow, and sea blue, combined with functional fuselage markings. This style sparked a craze in the early 1980s, fostering the subsequent development of the "MSV" series. Coinciding with the 20th anniversary of 《Mobile Suit Gundam SEED》, Mr. Okawara has reinterpreted the Real Type Color scheme for the two protagonist mobile suits from the series.
Both "Freedom Gundam (Real Type Color)" and "Justice Gundam (Real Type Color)" are modifications of the previously released standard versions from the 'METAL ROBOT SPIRITS' line. Breaking away from the familiar blue and white Freedom and red-toned Justice, the mobile suits' paint schemes have been refreshed. Freedom Gundam is given a low-visibility gray-white and dark green color scheme, reminiscent of an aerial combat machine, while Justice Gundam sports a cool blue camouflage. Additionally, newly designed fuselage markings are printed on various parts of both mobile suits.
