Following the robot-themed action figure series "ROBOT魂", released by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collectors' toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company, and after the Phantom Gundam released in 2021, a new prototype from "Mobile Suit Crossbone Gundam DUST", the "Phantom Gundam V2 / V2 Kai Interchangeable Set", was recently exhibited again. The release date is yet to be announced.
The EMS TC-02 Phantom Gundam, stolen by protagonist Font Baud in "Mobile Suit Crossbone Gundam GHOST", is a special-purpose transformable MS developed by the Jupiter Republic's special forces unit "Circus" using data from the previously captured "F99 Record Breaker". It was originally intended to perform long-distance high-speed travel between Earth and Jupiter in its cruising form "Mirage Bird", allowing it to single-handedly infiltrate and attack important Federation facilities. However, the "Minovsky Drive" was only half as complete as that of the concurrently developed V2 Gundam, resulting in an extremely unstable state. Multiple heat vents had to be added throughout its body to dissipate excess Minovsky particle energy, and several I-field generators were installed to forcibly converge and ensure the propulsion system's functionality. Later, in the sequel "Mobile Suit Crossbone Gundam DUST", it was repaired using new Universal Century 0160 technology and became the "Phantom Gundam V2".
Currently, the prototype of the "Phantom Gundam V2 / V2 Kai Interchangeable Set", in addition to the existing Phantom Gundam main body, also showcased the "Nose Beam Fan" used to compensate for the insufficient thrust of the Minovsky Drive after the Phantom Gundam V2 transforms into its Mirage Bird form. Furthermore, it displayed the multi-purpose attack armament "Peacock" used by the Phantom Gundam V2 Kai after subsequent modifications and enhancements, as well as a shield improved from the Nose Beam Fan.
