Beyond collecting, I aspired to create my own toys. As a blister card enthusiast myself, it was natural for me to choose this creative approach, one that combines my various specialties, when conceptualizing. And so, it all began...
About "Gui"
She is an original character created by the designer, blending personal experiences with current trends. Her full name is "Di Hui Gui," abbreviated as "Gui."
"Gui" was born in Kaohsiung, her birthday is August 9th, she is 166cm tall, and her profession is a band vocalist. Her favorite food is pig's blood cake, and she dislikes military dependents' villages. When she sings, her raw vocal style—sometimes screaming, wild, or whispering—moves many fans. She started her career in her hometown of Zuoying, joining a band called "Lazy Bones" with friends. Her bluesy voice injected new life into this listless band. To participate in larger music festivals, they are currently looking for a fourth member.
In short, she's a cool girl.
For this release, the paint application interprets the theme primarily with blue, complemented by white. The blue sections, after being painted with a nebula pattern, significantly enhance the surface details and collectibility. Her long hair features a gradient yellow to contrast with her outfit, drawing focus to the head. Her face is adorned with fluorescent pink makeup, and the extensive contouring blush evokes an 80s trend. The decal on her chest further reinforces the character's backstory; the decal features "Gui's" representative animal—the "Three-Eyed Ape (tentative)." The feet are "fake painted" to disguise the sneakers as a Taiwanese symbol—the blue-and-white flip-flops—not only echoing the theme but also conveying the designer's humor.
Regarding the blister card design, the designer pays homage to classic blister cards like "Star Wars" and "G.I. Joe," incorporating distressed and aged effects to convey a strong sense of retro nostalgia. The color scheme features clean color blocks. The character illustration on the front, the comic on the back, and the overall halftone texture all immerse the character within her world, also hinting at the designer's future creative direction.
Overall, the "RUNNER-Gui" Blister Card in "Blue and White," despite being a palm-sized 11cm toy, boasts exquisite paintwork, making it perfect for display and appreciation on a desk. As for the blister card, it combines intricate details with a clean visual design, making it ideal for wall decoration as well.
