Japanese toy company EVOLUTION TOY, under its "METAL ACTION" toy series, is scheduled to release in May 2024 the Anime Color Ver. of the "God Phoenix" (ゴッドフェニックス, GOD PHOENIX), the important flying vehicle of the Science Ninja Team from the classic anime "Science Ninja Team Gatchaman" (科学忍者隊ガッチャマン)! The price will be 30,580 JPY.
"Science Ninja Team Gatchaman" is undoubtedly a shared childhood memory for many born in the 60s and 70s. This anime series, released by Tatsunoko Production in 1972, was incredibly popular at the time. The story of the five Science Ninja Team members, led by Team Leader 1 Ken the Eagle (Japanese original name: 鷲尾健), and Dr. Nambu, joining forces to fight against the nefarious Galactor, became a hot topic of discussion for many. The costumes, various gadgets, and the vehicles driven by the five Science Ninja Team members featured in the show all served as excellent reference themes for toy products.
The God Phoenix, ridden by the Science Ninja Team, serves as an important symbol of the team. With the G-5 transport plane piloted by Team Member 5 Ryu as its main body, it can store the individual vehicles of the other four Science Ninja Team members. Once all are stored and combined, it forms the complete God Phoenix. It undertakes transportation and reconnaissance missions and is equipped with Bird Missiles (バードミサイル) as weapons. The God Phoenix's ultimate attack is the familiar "Science Ninja Technique: Firebird" (科学忍法・火の鳥). When activated, the God Phoenix appears to be engulfed in flames, like a phoenix reborn from ashes, charging towards enemies at high speed, making it an incredibly powerful attack.
This METAL ACTION God Phoenix released by EVOLUTION TOY is an anime color version of the previously released regular edition, featuring a more vibrant color scheme. It measures approximately 20 cm in length and is primarily constructed from die-cast metal. Furthermore, through interchangeable parts, it can recreate the appearance of the G-5 transport plane before it combines and stores the other vehicles. The individual vehicles of the other Science Ninja Team members are also included and can be stored within. The Bird Missile launch ports are also faithfully reproduced. Additionally, it comes with a dedicated display stand, the "Red Impulse Fighter" (レッドインパルス戦闘機) which often provides assistance, and transparent standees of the Science Ninja Team members.
