The "METAL ROBOT SPIRITS" series, a finished model line from Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company's collector's toy division, TAMASHII NATIONS, which combines metallic texture painting and an alloy frame, recently officially announced the release of the "Justice Gundam (Real Type Color)" scheduled for January 2024. This product is a commemorative item for the "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Series Project Exhibition" and is currently available for advance sale and lottery sale through the CLUB TAMASHII MEMBERS membership system.
The theme of this product, "Real Type Color," originates from the color scheme used by the original Gundam mechanical designer Kunio Okawara on the 1981 "Mobile Suit Gundam" movie poster. Unlike the toy-like vibrant colors in the anime, it adopts realistic military-style paint colors such as dark green, sand yellow, and sea blue, combined with practical fuselage markings. This style sparked a craze in the early 1980s, promoting the vigorous development of the "MSV" series later on. Coinciding with the 20th anniversary of "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED," Mr. Okawara has also reinterpreted the Real Type Color for the two main mobile suits in the series.
The "METAL ROBOT SPIRITS Justice Gundam (Real Type Color)" is based on the previously released standard version kit. It departs from the previous magenta tones, redesigned into a blue-gray color scheme reminiscent of naval camouflage, with newly designed fuselage markings printed on various parts of the body. The overall design combines the refined styling of the anime setting with a sharp head-to-body ratio. The frame, made with numerous alloy parts, boasts flexible articulation, allowing for dynamic poses that evoke scenes from the series.
In addition to recreating the twin-blade mode with two beam sabers, a beam rifle, and an anti-beam shield, the beam boomerangs mounted on both shoulders can also be displayed in their deployed state with beam effects. The "Fatum-00" drone mounted on the back features movable wing mechanisms, allowing the Justice Gundam itself to stand on top of it, recreating high-mobility space combat poses.
