Japanese toy company SpiceSeed (スパイスシード), known for releasing numerous character figures, is set to launch the second installment in its classic anime and manga series, "Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai", featuring "Grim Reaper Killvearn" (キルバーン). Pre-orders open on December 23rd, with shipments expected approximately 10 months after ordering. The price is 65,780 JPY.
"Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai" (ドラゴンクエスト ダイのだいぼうけん) is adapted from Japan's national RPG game "Dragon Quest." Riku Sanjo was responsible for the original story, and Koji Inada for the artwork. It began serialization in Shueisha's manga magazine "Weekly Shonen Jump" in 1989, with a total of 37 tankobon volumes. The new anime adaptation concluded its broadcast in October 2022, spanning 100 episodes. The story primarily narrates the grand saga of protagonist Dai, who transforms from a weak boy into a true hero through a series of adventures, battles, and partings, after encountering his master Avan, companions Popp, Princess Leona, and others.
The mysterious, ever-elusive character, "Grim Reaper" Killvearn (キルバーン, also known as Chirubaan, Kiruban, Kilburn), is not a subordinate of the Great Demon King Vearn, but rather acts as his overseer. His status within the Great Demon King's army is almost on par with Vearn himself. His name carries the meaning "Kill Vearn." His true identity is the small imp "Piroro" who always accompanies him; the scythe-wielding Grim Reaper, seemingly his main body, is actually just a puppet equipped with the powerful "Black Core" bomb. He has confronted Dai and his companions multiple times, excelling at using various traps to put them in peril. After revealing his true form at the end of the story, he was defeated, but the explosion of his Black Core puppet left Dai's whereabouts a mystery.
This SpiceSeed Killvearn figure stands approximately 35 cm tall and is crafted using a resin cast (レジンキャスト) method. Every detail and coloration is exquisitely rendered, including the Grim Reaper's expression, the appearance of his head ornaments, his complete attire, the large scythe he wields, and the impish clown Piroro who always accompanies him. All are faithfully reproduced from the original work. Displaying him alongside the previously released Mystvearn will create an even more immersive atmosphere. This is a highly recommended collectible for fans of the series.
