Japanese toy company TAKARA TOMY's popular toy series "ZOIDS," in commemoration of its 40th anniversary, has partnered with CAPCOM's popular hunting video game "Monster Hunter," which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, to launch the "MONSTER HUNTER × ZOIDS" collaboration project, releasing the limited-edition product: "Sonic Bird Rathalos"! The suggested retail price is 6,600 JPY, and it is scheduled for release in July 2024.
The Hunters controlling the Zoids have arrived──In the year 21XX, the gates to the multiverse suddenly opened, bringing unknown creatures, "Monsters," and "Felynes" to Earth. The "Monsters," having lost their original habitats, posed a threat to human life, forcing those responsible for Earth's defense to take countermeasures. On the other hand, the friendly, cat-like species, "Felynes," were searching for a way to return to their original world. In their world, Hunters excelled at hunting monsters, but in this world without Hunters, Earth's technology had to be utilized... Thus, the "ZOIDS dedicated to battling Monsters" were born!
The first collaborative Zoid from "MONSTER HUNTER × ZOIDS" is the "Sonic Bird Rathalos," a fusion of ZW-39 Sonic Bird and Rathalos. In its lore, ZOIDS researchers re-engineered the Sonic Bird, developing a completely new design specifically for battling Rathalos, based on its characteristics. Cutting weapons have been added to its wing blades, and its tail is designed with three types of weapons: a cannon, an accelerator, and a melee weapon, significantly enhancing both its close-range and long-range capabilities! To prepare for flame attacks, various parts of the body are coated with fire-resistant paint. It includes a rider figure in the same color as the Zoid, mimicking the stance of a hunter!
