MEDICOM TOY, a renowned Japanese toy company, announced today (the 24th) the latest addition to its 6-inch action figure series "MAFEX": "Superboy (Return of Superman)", based on the DC comic "The Return of Superman"! It is scheduled for release in December 2024, with a suggested retail price of 11,880 Japanese Yen.
In the 1992 story "The Death of Superman", Superman died after an intense battle with Doomsday. However, people were then introduced to four new Supermen! The protagonist of this release, "Superboy", was one of those four Supermen. His original backstory established him as a clone created by the genetic engineering company Project Cadmus, utilizing and modifying Superman's genes. He possesses many of Superman's abilities, but true to his appearance and moniker, Superboy's personality is quite arrogant and impulsive.
This "MAFEX Superboy", crafted according to "The Return of Superman" design, stands approximately 15 cm tall. It faithfully recreates his red and blue form-fitting battle suit, accented with yellow and black on the limbs and belt. Character features such as the 'S' emblem on his chest, the shaved sides and back of his head, and his shorter red gauntlets are all meticulously reproduced. He can also wear a leather-look jacket to display a different style. The figure includes three interchangeable head sculpts: a standard expression, a gritting teeth expression, and one wearing sunglasses. This figure can be displayed alongside MAFEX's previously released "Superman" and "Cyborg Superman".
