The "Kitaro" soft vinyl toy from the True Bone Carving Series (真骨頂シリーズ) by Japanese soft vinyl toy manufacturer "Rokudenashi Toys" (ロクでナシ玩具) is making a reappearance, this time in a closed-eyes, green-shirt version! In collaboration with the unique Japanese gallery, Hakaba Gallery (墓場の画廊), a lottery for the figure began today (the 8th) on the Hakaba Gallery official website. The lottery results will be announced on February 14th, with shipping commencing on March 1st. The suggested retail price is 16,500 JPY (tax included).
The "Kitaro" manga, originally serialized under the title "Hakaba Kitaro" starting in 1960, was created by the late Japanese manga artist Shigeru Mizuki. The story begins with "Mizuki," an office worker at a blood bank, who, due to encountering a "ghost blood" incident, begins an investigation. He meets a ghost couple at a temple, and Mizuki promises the ghost couple to keep the secret of the ghost blood until their child is born. Several months later, the ghost descendant born from the grave is "Kitaro." Kitaro was initially cared for by Mizuki, and after growing up, he began a wandering life with "Medama-oyaji" (Father Eyeball). In subsequent works, the story focuses on Kitaro resolving disputes between humans and yokai.
This Kitaro soft vinyl toy stands approximately 14 cm tall, truly bringing to life the original Kitaro image from the brush of yokai master Shigeru Mizuki. The rounded head shape and the sculpted lines of the hair are exceptionally well-executed. Visually, the plump, short calves and geta sandals are also a major highlight. The closed-eyes expression, in addition to evoking familiarity and nostalgia for loyal manga fans, imbues this Kitaro with a wonderfully whimsical and cute aura! The color presentation of the costume is also very beautiful, making it quite captivating.
▼ The second installment of the True Bone Carving Series Kitaro, "Kitaro's Father," set to appear later, is also highly anticipated.
