Japanese toy giant Max Factory is set to release a stunning 1/7 scale figure of Marin Kitagawa, the beloved protagonist from the popular anime series "My Dress-Up Darling," in December 2024. The figure will retail for 16,800 JPY.
"My Dress-Up Darling" (Japanese title: その着せ替え人形は恋をする, abbreviated as "Kisekoi"), a manga series created by Japanese artist Shinichi Fukuda, centers around the theme of cosplay. It first began serialization in "YOUNG GANGAN" magazine in January 2018. An anime adaptation, consisting of 12 episodes, premiered in January 2022. As of October 2023, the manga has sold over 10 million copies.
The story primarily follows Wakana Gojo, a male protagonist who, influenced by his grandfather from a young age, developed a deep passion for crafting Hina dolls (traditional Japanese dolls). This unique interest led to him being ostracized by girls his age during childhood, causing him to become introverted and quiet, with few friends in high school. One day, while using a sewing machine, he is discovered by his classmate Marin Kitagawa. Despite her outwardly glamorous and outgoing "gyaru" appearance, Marin is actually a huge fan of anime, games, and other otaku culture, harboring a strong desire to cosplay various characters. After witnessing Wakana's skilled craftsmanship, she spontaneously asks him to create her cosplay outfits. Wakana, having never ventured into this field before, decides to give it a try, and thus their story unfolds.
This 1/7 scale Marin Kitagawa figure from Max Factory stands approximately 23 cm tall. It captures Marin in her everyday school uniform, featuring her signature long blonde hair, the stylishly tied uniform shirt, and her short plaid skirt that highlights her long legs. Even her school bag, complete with the attached plushie, is meticulously recreated. The overall pose and expression are based on her iconic greeting to Wakana from the original series, giving the figure a dynamic feel. Paired with its dedicated base, the entire display exudes a bright and cheerful vibe.
