The robot-themed action figure series "ROBOT魂 ver. A.N.I.M.E.", released by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., today announced the latest product from "Mobile Suit Z Gundam", the "Rick Dias (Quattro Bajeena Color)", scheduled for release in July 2024.
The RMS-099 Rick Dias is a new generation mobile suit jointly developed by Anaheim Electronics and the AEUG. It incorporates various technologies similar to the RX-78 Gundam series, such as a movable frame and Gundarium γ alloy, possessing excellent performance, with the only difference being its non-Gundam appearance. Anaheim Electronics regarded it as a direct descendant of the Gundam line. Nevertheless, pilots from the Federation were not entirely satisfied with its operating system, while pilots from Zeon gave the mobile suit quite high praise. When AEUG leader Blex Forer had already decided on the name "γ Gundam" for this mobile suit, Captain Quattro Bajeena (Char Aznable) believed that without the iconic Gundam face and with a physique similar to a Dom, calling it a Gundam would be an insult to the Gundam name. Through his proposal, it was renamed "Rick Dias", and naturally, Quattro's personal unit subsequently received the most fitting red paint scheme.
The "ROBOT魂 Rick Dias (Quattro Bajeena Color) ver. A.N.I.M.E." is produced as an approximately 13 cm tall action figure. Its overall design faithfully recreates the refined appearance from the anime setting materials and the red color scheme of Char's custom mobile suit. It features details such as heavy armor structures, a balanced thruster backpack, and AMBAC thrusters throughout the body. The red head armor also has an unfolding mechanism, allowing it to reproduce the vulcan cannon firing pose and adjust the angle of the mono-eye camera.
The overall articulation design leverages the experience of the ver. A.N.I.M.E. series. The chest and abdomen joints, combined with the independent articulation at the base of the backpack, allow for significant forward and backward bending. The horizontal axis articulation of the elbows enables the mobile suit to strike standing poses identical to the setting materials. When the knee joint bends, the pipeline parts at the back of the calf also retract into the armor, allowing the legs to bend significantly to reproduce the deep squatting pose as the mobile suit prepares for sortie.
Accessories include a Clay Bazooka, a pair of Beam Pistols, and a Beam Saber. It also comes with a Beam Saber blade effect, Beam Pistol firing effects, and interchangeable hands to reproduce the multi-launcher hidden in the fingers. Compared to the standard specification unit released one month later, this version does not include the newly sculpted "Clay Bazooka firing effect" or "high-output thruster effect", but instead comes with two general-purpose thruster effects, which can also be used with this mobile suit.
