Japan's Kotobukiya (KOTOBUKIYA) company, known for its exquisite three-dimensional works of ACG characters under the "ARTFX J" series, is releasing a new product based on the super popular anime "Haikyuu!!" — the "Haikyuu!! Kozume Kenma" 1/8 scale figure, scheduled for release in October 2024!
"Haikyuu!!" is a volleyball-themed anime and manga series originally created by Japanese manga artist Haruichi Furudate and adapted by Japanese animation studio Production I.G. The story follows the short-statured protagonist, Shoyo Hinata, who possesses an intense passion for volleyball. After joining the Karasuno High School volleyball team, once a powerhouse, he and his teammates overcome challenges together, taking on one strong school after another.
Kozume Kenma belongs to the Nekoma High School volleyball club in the story and serves as the team's setter. Due to his keen observation and prediction abilities, he acts as the "brain" of the team, directing his teammates who serve as the "blood."
This sculpt is based on an illustration drawn by Takahiro Chiba, the animation director for "Haikyuu!!". The product perfectly recreates Kenma's barefoot pose sitting on a tree, as depicted in the illustration. His languid, unexpressive face contrasts with the flowing movement of his Nekoma High School tracksuit, showcasing his personality while revealing the powerful aura of his role as the team's brain. A major highlight of these two Nekoma character pieces is the interaction with the wildcat representing Nekoma; a calico cat gently leans against Kenma's chest. The exquisite sculpting and dynamic sense of the character imbue the entire piece with a light and delicate atmosphere.
