PROOF, a Japanese toy brand that releases various anime-related merchandise, gashapon toys, and PVC scale figures, is set to release a 1/7 scale figure of Kyoko Otonashi, the heroine from the classic anime series "Maison Ikkoku," along with her beloved dog Soichiro, in October 2024, priced at 25,300 JPY.
"Maison Ikkoku" (めぞん一刻) was created by the renowned Rumiko Takahashi, known for works such as "Ranma ½" and "Inuyasha." It was originally serialized in Shogakukan's seinen manga magazine "Big Comic Spirits" starting in 1980, with a total of 15 tankobon volumes. The anime adaptation began airing in March 1986, comprising 96 episodes. The "Maison" in the title is a transliteration of the French word "Maison," meaning "house" or "mansion." The story primarily follows Yusaku Godai, a student preparing for university entrance exams, who, by chance, moves into Ikkoku-kan. He falls in love at first sight with the building manager, Kyoko Otonashi, and from then on, Godai, Kyoko, and the other residents of Ikkoku-kan embark on a series of colorful daily lives over several years.

This Kyoko Otonashi figure from PROOF is crafted in 1/7 scale, standing approximately 25.5 cm tall. It faithfully recreates Kyoko's appearance from the original work, where she always ties her hair up, wears her signature chick-yellow apron, and holds a long broom while sweeping in front of Ikkoku-kan. Furthermore, the specially designed base includes a section of the wall inscribed with "Ikkoku-kan." Most charmingly, her beloved dog, "Soichiro," named after her late husband, is also recreated, depicted sleeping in his doghouse. Displayed alongside Kyoko, it feels as if one has returned to the familiar entrance of Ikkoku-kan.
