Released by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., the "METAL ROBOT Damashii" series, which combines metallic paint finishes and die-cast frames, today announced the confirmed commercialization of a new product from "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM," the "Akatsuki Gundam (Shiranui Pack) SEED FREEDOM Ver." Detailed product information will be released at a later date.
The ORB-01 Akatsuki Gundam is the flagship MS of the Orb military, built by the Orb state-owned enterprise "Morgenroete Inc." This unit was designed based on data from the "GAT-X105 Strike Gundam," sharing a very similar silhouette and also utilizing a backpack exchange system similar to the "Striker Pack," allowing it to swap between the "Oowashi Pack" for atmospheric use and the "Shiranui Pack" for space. The Akatsuki places significant emphasis on its defense system; its dazzling golden coating is not merely decorative but is the "Yata no Kagami" mirror armor, capable of reflecting beam attacks, rendering it almost impervious even to positron cannon fire from battleships. However, the extremely high construction cost of this unit led to the project being frozen after the prototype was completed in C.E. 71, though Morgenroete Inc. secretly completed it using the latest technology.
The Akatsuki Gundam, which reappears in the theatrical film "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM," is once again piloted by Mu La Flaga. Although it has not undergone improvements like other returning mobile suits, it is equipped with the new enhanced armament, the "Zeus Silhouette," and is active on the battlefield. However, it has already been announced that this SEED FREEDOM Ver. Akatsuki Gundam will not be able to equip the "METAL ROBOT Damashii Zeus Silhouette." Currently, it appears to reuse the previous version's design with newly designed fuselage markings.
