Japan's Fukuoka "Mobile Suit Gundam" themed facility GUNDAM SIDE-F, home to the highly popular life-sized ν Gundam statue, announced today that the latest limited-edition product from "Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack", the "MG 1/100 Re-GZ (Char's Counterattack Ver.)", which will only be sold in-store, is scheduled for release in April 2023.
The RGZ-91 Re-GZ is a prototype mobile suit developed by Anaheim Electronics to simplify and mass-produce the MSZ-006 "Z Gundam". Its main body eliminates complex transformation mechanisms to increase armor strength. Instead, it semi-transforms into an MA (Mobile Armor) form capable of cruising within the atmosphere and in space, using a dedicated backpack part called "BWS (BACK・WEAPON・SYSTEM)". However, to revert to MS (Mobile Suit) form after transformation, the entire BWS must be jettisoned. In addition to being Amuro's personal unit in "Char's Counterattack", this machine also made a brief appearance in a hangar in "Mobile Suit Gundam UC".
The "MG 1/100 Re-GZ (Char's Counterattack Ver.)" is a modified version of the "Re-GZ Unicorn Ver." kit released in 2019. All parts of the kit have been molded in new colors to match its appearance in "Char's Counterattack", and it also includes model-original waterslide decals for the unit markings. All other designs are identical to the UC version, including armaments such as the beam rifle, beam saber, and shield, as well as the "BWS" and a "dedicated MA form display base" to recreate its MA form.
