Japanese soft vinyl toy brand "Rokudenahi Toys" has, after releasing multiple versions of "Kitaro" in their Shinkocchou Series, now partnered with the unique Japanese gallery, Hakaba Gallery (墓場の画廊), to hold a lottery for "Father of Kitaro" on the Hakaba Gallery official website from April 5th to 7th, 2024. The lottery results will be announced on April 9th, with shipping commencing on April 26th. The suggested retail price is 16,500 JPY (tax included).
The "Kitaro" manga, originally serialized under the title "Hakaba Kitaro" starting in 1960, was created by the late Japanese manga artist Shigeru Mizuki. The story begins with "Mizuki," an office worker at a blood bank, who, after encountering a "ghost blood" incident, begins an investigation and meets a ghost couple at a temple. Mizuki promises the ghost couple to keep the secret of the blood until their child is born. Several months later, the ghost descendant born from the grave is "Kitaro." Kitaro was initially cared for by Mizuki, and after growing up, he began a wandering life with "Medama-Oyaji" (Eyeball Father). In subsequent works, the story focused more on Kitaro resolving conflicts between humans and yokai.
The "Shinkocchou Series Father of Kitaro" is a soft vinyl figure three-dimensionalized at a massive 26 cm size. Designed based on original artwork by Shigeru Mizuki-sensei, this piece perfectly captures the terrifying appearance resulting from illness. The intricate facial textures and vivid expression seem to emulate Mizuki-sensei's brushstrokes. Although the head is covered in bandages, numerous details like peeling bandages and soiled paintwork can be seen, conveying the extremely difficult living conditions of the ghost couple in the story. Coupled with the articulated arms and impressive size, this is an absolute must-have for Kitaro fans. If you're a toy collector who started paying attention to the Father of Kitaro because of "Kitaro Tanjou: GeGeGe no Nazo" (Kitaro's Birth: The Mystery of GeGeGe), we highly recommend adding this soft vinyl figure, which exudes the charm of Shigeru Mizuki-sensei's original artwork, to your collection!
