IKIMON (株式会社いきもん), a Japanese gashapon toy manufacturer spun off from Kitan Club, has officially released a new product under its gashapon toy line "ARTUNIV TECHNI COLOUR": the "Plump Cat Planter Gashapon (ぽってりにゃんこのカプセルトイ)". It was launched nationwide in Japan on March 26, 2024, with a suggested retail price of 500 JPY.
The creator of this product is Japanese sculptor Echidna Aya, who founded the ECHIDNAYA brand. A graduate of the design department at Yokohama College of Art and Design, he specializes in themes that combine small plants with animal art. From the design of the planter shape, prototype sculpting, painting, to planting, every step is meticulously crafted with immense time and love. While each piece may only be produced in small quantities, the hope is that these beautiful, soul-nourishing creations can reach more people. The gashapon-adapted "Plump Cat (ぽってりにゃんこ)" planter series is one of Echidna Aya's representative works.
The "Plump Cat Planter Gashapon" faithfully recreates Echidna Aya's designs in a cute, compact gashapon size, featuring the cats' plump bottoms, round bodies, and adorable smiling expressions. The characteristic floral and plant elements on their backs are rendered as plastic models. This gashapon set includes six different colored cats: black, white, orange, sky blue, pink, and gray, with their color schemes faithfully reproducing the original's warm tones and unique brushwork.
