World-renowned high-end collectible figure manufacturer Hot Toys officially announced yesterday (28th) the latest product from their "DX Series" based on "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" – the return of the wild and untamed captain, "Jack Sparrow", as a 1/6th scale collectible figure! Three versions will be released simultaneously: "DX37 Regular Version", "DX38 Deluxe Version", and the wool-rooted hair version "DX39 ARTISAN EDITION". This article will focus on the product information for the DX37 Regular Version and DX38 Deluxe Version.
This figure stands approximately 30 cm tall, perfectly capturing Captain Sparrow's unique temperament, which is at times eccentric and unpredictable, and at other times reliable and dashing, all in accordance with the film's portrayal. The excellent head sculpt plays a significant role, not only meticulously shaping Johnny Depp's on-screen charisma and contours from that era but also incorporating rolling eyeballs technology and two interchangeable face sculpts (smiling and serious) to achieve greater expressive versatility. The hair section utilizes both sculpted and rooted hair techniques, meticulously recreating the rich layers formed by intricate braids, colorful hair accessories, wool-rooted hair strands, and a red bandana. Compared to the DX15 version from many years ago, the head sculpt appears slightly more natural, in my personal opinion, based on the official images.
Beyond the head sculpt, the meticulously crafted full set of pirate attire is another major highlight! The off-white long-sleeved shirt, the blue vest with exquisite silk-screened patterns, the fitted long coat, the numerous items hanging from the belt, etc., are all rendered with a layering of fabric, leather, and metal materials to achieve a sense of realism. Accessories include a compass, a telescope, an oil lamp with LED light-up function, a glass bottle containing the Black Pearl, a cutlass, a dagger, two pistols, multiple interchangeable hands, and a rotatable ship's wheel.
The Deluxe Version will feature the rotatable ship's wheel paired with a Black Pearl diorama base that includes a treasure chest, sculpted wave details, and a damaged wooden plank base. All other accessories and the figure body remain identical to the Regular Version.
