The "Tokusatsu DNA" exhibition, dedicated to promoting and showcasing Japanese tokusatsu-related content, collaborated last year with ADK Emotions, an animation distributor under the Japanese advertising company ADK Group, to launch a product themed after the film "Gamera 2: Attack of Legion" – the "Gamera Suit and Hanger Cart." With a reference price of 36,000 JPY, it is set to ship soon!
Tokusatsu DNA is a series of exhibitions themed around tokusatsu TV and film works, aiming to celebrate, promote, and showcase tokusatsu culture. Since 2016, it has featured numerous tokusatsu-themed exhibitions, including "Godzilla," "Kamen Rider Black Sun," "Ultraman," and "Gamera."
The "Gamera Suit and Hanger Cart" utilizes the only existing suit, the actual leather suit used during the filming of the 1996 tokusatsu film "Gamera 2: Attack of Legion." Using 174 cameras, a high-polygon 3D model with 620 million faces was created, from which this soft vinyl figure, standing approximately 38.6 cm tall, was produced. The various details on the suit, including weathering and scratches, are meticulously recreated through hand-painting. Because the model was scanned directly from the suit, it doesn't feature dynamic posing, but being able to collect a smaller-scale replica of the actual suit seen in the film is, in some ways, even more exciting!
For this product, "Mori Kogei-sha," a company that brings ideas to life through wood processing, was enlisted to create the hanger cart used to transport the Gamera suit during filming. This allows for the recreation of the suit placed on the cart. As a special bonus, a printed photo of Tomoo Haraguchi, who designed the Gamera suit, posing with the suit is also included. Every detail of this product is brimming with deep affection for Gamera and tokusatsu, making it a truly worthwhile collectible!
