Japanese toy company KOTOBUKIYA's "ARTFX J" product series has officially announced its latest products from Naoya Matsumoto's "Kaiju No. 8": "Kaiju No. 8" and "Hibino Kafka." This article will provide product information for the "Hibino Kafka" 1/8 scale PVC pre-painted figure, scheduled for release in December 2024, with a suggested retail price of 13,600 JPY.
Created by Japanese manga artist Naoya Matsumoto, "Kaiju No. 8" is set in Japan, a country with an extremely high kaiju appearance rate. The protagonist, Hibino Kafka, harbored a grand ambition since childhood to join the Defense Force and fight kaiju. However, due to multiple failed attempts, he had long given up on joining the Defense Force and instead took on the post-cleanup work of processing kaiju corpses, having reached the age of 32. One day, a young man named Reno Ichikawa became Kafka's junior. Unexpectedly, the two were suddenly attacked by a kaiju. After saving Reno, Kafka resolved to try joining the Defense Force again. That very night, an unknown creature invaded Kafka's body, transforming him into an incredibly powerful kaiju, which the world came to know as "Kaiju No. 8"...
Standing approximately 20 cm tall, this figure captures Hibino Kafka in his Defense Force battle suit, poised for combat against a kaiju. Beyond the meticulous recreation of Kafka's spiky black hair and his resolute gaze fixed forward, the figure also faithfully reproduces the mask equipped on his Defense Force suit, the layered texture achieved through composite materials, and the gear attached to his waist and outer left thigh. The black bodysuit is sculpted with realistic wrinkles generated by his pose, effectively conveying the suit's design to tighten according to the wearer's physique. The base depicts a damaged road from a kaiju battle, showcasing details such as white paint, realistically carved asphalt cracks, and potholes.

▼ Purchases made at the KOTOBUKIYA official store (コトブキヤショップ) will also receive a bonus interchangeable head sculpt of Hibino Kafka without his mask.
▼ Key characters from "Kaiju No. 8" will continue to be released subsequently, including his junior Reno Ichikawa, Kikoru Shinomiya, Soshiro Hoshina, and Mina Ashiro.
