Japanese toy company KAIYODO has officially announced the latest addition to its large soft vinyl finished product series "MEGA SOFVi (メガソフビ)": "Kaiju No. 8"! It is scheduled for release starting October 2024, with a suggested retail price of 30,000 JPY.
Created by Japanese manga artist "Naoya Matsumoto," "Kaiju No. 8" is set in Japan, a country with an extremely high incidence of kaiju appearances. The protagonist, "Kafka Hibino," harbored a grand ambition from childhood to join the Defense Force and fight kaiju. However, due to repeated failures in the entrance exams, he had long given up on joining the Defense Force, instead taking on the work of disposing of kaiju corpses, having reached the age of 32. One day, a young man named "Reno Ichikawa" became Kafka's junior. Unexpectedly, the two were suddenly attacked by a kaiju. After saving Reno, Kafka resolved to try joining the Defense Force once more. However, that very night, Kafka was invaded by an unknown creature, transforming him into an incredibly powerful kaiju, which the world came to call "Kaiju No. 8"...
This piece stands at an impressive 53 cm tall. The overall sculpt was handled by the highly skilled dinosaur and creature sculptor, Nendo Seijin (RYO). This ensures that the "MEGA SOFVi Kaiju No. 8" not only boasts an overwhelming large size but also exhibits details that evoke a sense of real biological existence. These include the skull-like facial bones, prominent horns, the thick, scale-like skin on the chest and shoulders, the hard outer shell covering the torso and limbs, and the muscle fibers visible through the gaps in the shell. The sheer wealth of detail allows this Kaiju No. 8, even in a simple standing pose, to exude the formidable power befitting a Level 9.8 Great Kaiju! Absolutely stunning.
