Released by the HOBBY Division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., the 'RG (Real Grade)' Gunpla series, which incorporates exterior armor, internal frame, interlocking armor, and new technologies into 1/144 scale models, today announced the latest product from "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY", the "RG 1/144 Akatsuki Gundam (Oowashi Pack)", scheduled for release in December 2024.
ORB-01 Akatsuki Gundam is the flagship MS of the Orb military, built by the Orb state-owned enterprise "Morgenroete Inc.". This unit was designed based on data from the "GAT-X105 Strike Gundam", sharing a very similar silhouette. It also adopts a backpack swapping system similar to the "Striker Pack", allowing it to switch between the "Oowashi Pack" for atmospheric use and the "Shiranui Pack" for space. The Akatsuki places great emphasis on its defense system; its dazzling gold coating is not merely decorative, but rather a beam-reflecting mirror armor called "Yata-no-Kagami", which allows it to remain almost unscathed even when hit by a battleship-mounted "Positron Cannon". However, the construction cost of this unit was extremely high, leading to the project being frozen after the prototype was completed in C.E. 71, though Morgenroete Inc. secretly completed it with the latest technology.
"RG 1/144 Akatsuki Gundam (Oowashi Pack)" not only boasts the precise color separation, intricate parts, and cool styling characteristic of the RG series, but its entire body also features a special multi-faceted design combined with gold-plated parts, utilizing light reflection to showcase the interplay of light and shadow on its armor surfaces. More detailed product information is expected to be announced in June 2024.
