Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company HOBBY Division today at the "Shizuoka Hobby Show 2024" unveiled for the first time the latest Gunpla product from "Mobile Suit Gundam", the "BEST MECHA COLLECTION 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam (REVIVAL Ver.)", with an anticipated release in October 2024.
Older Gunpla kits like the "1/144 Gundam" released in 1980 were not as convenient to build as modern products. At that time, there were no snap-fit designs, and every part had to be glued together with model cement. The plastic parts also came in a single grayish-white color, requiring the characteristic red, blue, and yellow Gundam colors to be hand-painted.
The "BEST MECHA COLLECTION 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam (REVIVAL Ver.)" utilizes modern 2024 color separation and part division technology to recreate the original "1/144 Gundam" Gunpla product released in 1980. The overall design retains the unique, simple aesthetic of the old kit, while redesigning the overall part separation and assembly structure. It is given rich molded colors such as white, yellow, red, blue, and dark gray, commemorating the 45th anniversary of "Mobile Suit Gundam".
