Kotobukiya, a Japanese toy company renowned for its "ARTFX J" series which creates exquisite three-dimensional ACG character figures, has launched three new products based on the popular anime and manga "Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story"—"Kenshin Himura," "Hajime Saitō," and "Sanosuke Sagara"! This article will focus on the "Hajime Saitō" 1/8 scale PVC pre-painted figure, with a suggested retail price of 16,500 JPY, scheduled for release in January 2025!
"Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story" is an adaptation of Nobuhiro Watsuki's manga "Rurouni Kenshin," produced by LIDENFILMS, and is a remake of the 1996 anime. Hajime Saitō, who appears in the work, is based on the historical figure who was a captain of the Shinsengumi, the largest swordsman group of the Bakumatsu period. He was originally the captain of the Shinsengumi's Third Unit, possessing exceptional swordsmanship and a top-notch ability to deliver witty remarks. In the story, he is Kenshin's arch-rival and the only master who never had a decisive outcome against Kenshin.
This Hajime Saitō 1/8 scale PVC pre-painted figure stands approximately 23.7 cm tall, depicting Saitō in the midst of unleashing his signature move, "Gatotsu." The details faithfully reproduce the wrinkles and textures of his police uniform from the anime. The dynamic flow of his iconic four "cockroach whiskers" on his forehead and the dust cloud effects behind his feet significantly enhance the overall visual impact of the figure. Displaying him alongside Kenshin, scheduled for release in December, allows for recreating their battle scenes!
Pre-ordering at the KOTOBUKIYA SHOP will also include a special bonus: an interchangeable open-mouthed face part for Saitō, showcasing him in a powerful shouting pose!
