HI-METAL R 'Macross VF-4 Lightning III -Flash Back 2012-' Returns with Special New Packaging!

The alloy model series 'HI-METAL R', released by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., recently announced the latest product from the OVA anime 'Macross Flash Back 2012', the 'VF-4 Lightning III -Flash Back 2012-', scheduled for release in October 2024.

The VF-4 Lightning III is a variable fighter developed as a successor to the VF-1 Valkyrie. It features a triple-fuselage structure and similarly possesses FIGHTER, GERWALK, and BATTROID three-stage transformation mechanisms. This model significantly addresses the VF-1's weakness in space combat, equipped with a 'particle beam cannon' as its main weapon, which is less affected by the space environment, while also enhancing maneuverability and endurance. However, the VF-1's atmospheric performance still holds a slight edge, meaning the VF-4 cannot completely replace it.

The 'HI-METAL R VF-4 Lightning III -Flash Back 2012-' is a revised version of the standard release from 2019. The VF-4 main body design remains completely unchanged; the differences lie in the altered base color and updated printing designs for some fuselage markings. The unit is constructed from plastic with some die-cast metal parts, capable of reproducing the FIGHTER, GERWALK, and BATTROID forms through its precise transformation mechanism, and can be displayed and played with alongside its landing gear, GUNPOD, and pilot figure.

Furthermore, the outer box design features brand-new illustrations drawn by Risa Ebata, who served as character designer and animation director for 'Macross Frontier'. Even the inner liner paper has been changed to a background board printed with a character visual of the heroine 'Lynn Minmay', allowing for display alongside the VF-4 unit itself.
