Bandai Co., Ltd. Japan today officially announced detailed information regarding the classic yo-yo toy 'Hyper Yo-Yo ACCEL', revived for the modern era. The first product, 'ACCEL ORIGIN', designed for beginners, is scheduled for official release on July 20, 2024.
'Hyper Yo-Yo (ハイパーヨーヨー)' is a series of high-performance yo-yo toys released by Bandai Co., Ltd. Japan in 1997. Employing an OEM strategy, Bandai collaborated with multiple yo-yo manufacturers such as YOMEGA, DUNCAN, and YOYOFACTORY to develop products. These yo-yos not only offered competitive performance but were also easy to disassemble for maintenance and could be customized with different parts. This allowed both beginner and experienced players to assemble a Hyper Yo-Yo that suited their style. Through the expansion of multimedia works at the time, 'Hyper Yo-Yo' quickly became a sensation in Japan, selling 27 million units between 1997 and 1998.
Now, reborn in the Reiwa era, 'Hyper Yo-Yo ACCEL' has evolved with modern technology. It features a new, patent-pending mechanism called the "ACCEL System". In addition to the core bearing, it connects two independently rotating "ACCEL bearings" on both sides. This allows the yo-yo to spin at high speed just by pulling the string while holding it, enabling a wider variety of tricks and play styles.
The first product, the 'ACCEL ORIGIN' series, is an entry-level model specifically designed for basic tricks like "Earth Around" and "Walk the Dog", integrating the "ACCEL System". It will be simultaneously released in various colors and patterns, including Dragon Red, Hip-Hop Yellow, Cartoon Pink, Sport Lime Green, Hero Blue, Gaming Black, Cosmic Purple, Cyber White, and Punk Green. The suggested retail price for each is 1,980 JPY (tax included).
