In the "ZOIDS 40TH ANNIVERSARY PROJECT", a 40th-anniversary commemorative project for the popular "ZOIDS" series by Japanese toy company TAKARA TOMY, the "ADVANCED Zi SERIES" which remakes classic Zoids using modern cutting-edge technology, announced its latest product, the "AZ-08 MOLUGA", slated for release in late February 2025.
The MOLUGA is an insect-type Zoid widely mass-produced and utilized by both the Zenebas Empire and Guylos Empire in the original "ZOIDS" world. Its silkworm-like design features a low chassis and heavy armor. Notably, the head armor, which houses the cockpit, is twice as thick as other parts, not only increasing pilot survivability but also enabling it to break through enemy lines on the ground, dig and advance underground, and launch surprise attacks on enemy forces.
The "AZ-08 MOLUGA" utilizes the latest technology cultivated over 40 years of the ZOIDS series, with its design thoroughly revamped from external appearance to internal structure. While inheriting the design of the old kits released in 1984 and 1999, it re-sculpts the intricate details of the heavy exterior armor, adjusts the proportions of the streamlined insect body, and refines its articulation and linkage mechanisms. For the first time in a MOLUGA kit, it is equipped with a motorized power mechanism. Once activated, it moves like a lifelike silkworm, swaying its head and tail up and down, crawling forward and backward, and linking with the rotation of the front wheels and back gears.
When the motor is not activated, the MOLUGA can still be enjoyed through its various articulated parts, such as deploying the hidden cockpit in the head, revealing the Zoid core hidden in the back, and extending the twin anti-air missiles concealed within the tail armor. Furthermore, the AZ version adds an original weapon not found in previous kits: the "Jamming Antenna," which can be attached to the front of the unit and deployed like the osmeterium of a swallowtail butterfly larva.
