Can innate deficiencies truly be overcome by effort later in life? Japanese gashapon toy manufacturer YELL (エール) has launched a heartwarming yet humorous gashapon series titled "Can't Fly So I Train My Big Muscles: Muscular Kiwi" (tentative translation, 飛べないから鍛えてみた ムキムキーウィ). It features five different designs, with a reference price of 200 JPY per capsule, and is scheduled for release in October 2024.

Despite being birds, kiwis are flightless and endemic to New Zealand. Current research suggests that due to a lack of natural predators and abundant food in New Zealand, their carefree environment led to the gradual degeneration of their flight capabilities. Their wings are hidden beneath their fluffy, short feathers, making them almost imperceptible. The "Can't Fly, So Let's Train Big Muscles: Muscular Kiwi" gashapon series is inspired by this, depicting kiwis living in a gym. Unable to escape by flying, they can still contend with enemies using their strong muscles! The collection includes the muscle-flexing Muscular Kiwi, the Dumbbell-Lifting Kiwi, the Whey Protein-Supplementing Kiwi, the Resting Kiwi, and the Accidentally Slackened Plump Kiwi~
