Following the previous "Spike & Faye 1st GIG set," Japanese toy company MEGAHOUSE is finally releasing a new "Cowboy Bebop" themed product: the "Cowboy Bebop 2nd GIG Spike Spiegel ~Daybreak~" 1/8 scale pre-painted figure. It has a suggested retail price of 30,800 JPY and is scheduled for release in late December 2024!
"Cowboy Bebop" is an original television anime series produced in 1998 by Sunrise and Bandai Visual, based on a concept by Hajime Yatate and directed by Shinichirō Watanabe. The story follows protagonists Spike (スパイク) and Jet (ジェット) as they pilot the spaceship Beebop, making a living as bounty hunters in space. They later encounter Faye (フェイ), a beautiful woman burdened with debt, Ed (エド), a computer prodigy, and Ein (アイン), a data dog. Together, the group wanders the vast cosmos, searching for their respective pasts.
This "2nd GIG Spike Spiegel ~Daybreak~" 1/8 scale pre-painted figure stands approximately 23 cm tall. It is based on the final scene from the 26th and final episode of the "Cowboy Bebop" TV anime, "The Real Folk Blues (Part 2)." It depicts Spike, after his decisive battle with Vicious, descending the stairs while clutching his injured body and mimicking a gun with his fingers. Details such as the white doves flying over Spike's head in the scene are also recreated. The top of the staircase features Julia and Vicious rendered in a stained-glass style, while the back of the staircase incorporates a vinyl record, symbolizing the series' memorable musical elements. The overall paint application uses a low-saturation color scheme combined with high-exposure coloring on bright surfaces, faithfully reproducing the visual effect of this classic scene from the show!
