BANDAI SPIRITS' TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan, has officially unveiled the full details of a new product from its popular die-cast toy line METAL BUILD's spin-off series, "METAL BUILD DRAGON SCALE". The new release is "Welbine (Na Country Royal Guard Commander Specification)" from "Aura Battler Dunbine", scheduled for release in December 2024.
Welbine is one of the Aura Battlers well-known to "Aura Battler Dunbine" fans, yet it never appeared in the anime, only in games like "Super Robot Wars". In fact, the Welbine's design is closer to the initially conceived successor to Dunbine, the "Billbine". However, at the time of the anime's broadcast, to meet the demands of toy sponsors for model sales, it was temporarily modified into the current mechanical-style Billbine, much to the dissatisfaction of director Yoshiyuki Tomino and others. It wasn't until later that mechanical designer Yutaka Izubuchi redrew the initial design in the model magazine 'B-CLUB', giving birth to the "Welbine" which inherited Dunbine's organic style.
The "METAL BUILD DRAGON SCALE Welbine (Na Country Royal Guard Commander Specification)" aims to simultaneously present an extremely organic sculpt and flexible articulation. Its form was first sculpted as a non-articulated model, and then the design was converted into data with articulated structures, meticulously realizing this "articulated statue". It can be posed in various combat stances with its Aura Sword Rifle and the daggers stored in its forearms.
The product continues the design style of its predecessor, "Sirbine", based on the concept that "Aura Battlers are products made from materials stripped from powerful beasts combined with artificial processing." The entire body is given an extremely organic sculpt, expressing the textures of beast wings, claws, and carapaces. Simultaneously, it utilizes a die-cast frame, clear parts, metallic and pearl coatings to convey artificial elements and a heavy metallic feel.
The cool design also incorporates features characteristic of the DRAGON SCALE series, such as "articulated exterior armor" and "Soul Internal Structure". Many parts of the body armor feature interlocking mechanisms, especially in the layered leg structure, where the left, right, and rear armor can slide in conjunction with the bending of the foot, creating a more dynamic pose. Opening the chest armor reveals the internal cockpit parts, rendered with textured, jewel-toned clear parts to present a mysterious aesthetic.
