BANDAI CANDY, the confectionery toy division of Japan's Bandai Co., Ltd., will release a plastic model kit of the protagonist robot "Grendizer" (グレンダイザー) from the currently airing robot anime "Grendizer U" (グレンダイザーU), as part of its popular assembly model confectionery toy series "SHOKUGAN MODELING PROJECT" (SMP). It will be available in November 2024 for 5,500 JPY.
The anime "Grendizer U" (グレンダイザーU), which began airing in July 2024, is an adaptation of "UFO Robo Grendizer" (directly translated as Grendizer, formerly known as Goldorak, Grandizer, or Grendizer in Hong Kong) by the renowned manga artist Go Nagai, creator of "Mazinger Z" (マジンガーZ). It is the third work in the Mazinger series. "Grendizer U" is considered a rebooted remake, relaunched after 50 years.
The new version of "Grendizer U" features some differences from the original in both character and robot designs. The protagonist remains "Duke Fleed" (デューク・フリード), who crash-landed on Earth from Fleed Star aboard Grendizer. He lost his memory due to the impact and was rescued by Sayaka Yumi, the daughter of the Photon Power Laboratory director. This led to him meeting Koji Kabuto and adopting the name Daisuke. When he saw Koji piloting Mazinger Z in peril from a Vega Beast attack, he reawakened and summoned Grendizer, easily repelling the enemy with a single Space Thunder to save Koji, thus beginning the story.
This SMP Grendizer model is based on the design from the new remake anime, standing approximately 15 cm tall, a perfect size for play. All the intricate details from the anime have been faithfully reproduced, including the head, chest panel shape, shoulder decorations, abdominal ornamentation, spiked forearms, and thighs, presenting players with a brand-new Grendizer. Its standard weapon is the "Double Harken" (ダブルハーケン), which can be combined into a double-bladed long weapon or separated for each hand. It can also be posed in a battle stance, ready to launch the "Screw Crusher Punch" (スクリュークラッシャーパンチ). SMP also plans to release a "Spacer" (スペイザー) and Grendizer interaction set in the future, which is highly anticipated.
