Chinese toy brand HIYA Toys, renowned for producing high-quality collectibles from Legendary Pictures' "Godzilla" under its EXQUISITE BASIC series, is following up on the previous "King Ghidorah (1991)" with a new product from the "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah" theme: the "Heat Ray Godzilla Hokkaido Ver. (1991)" non-scale action figure. It has a suggested retail price of US$51 and is expected to be released in Q1 2025!
"Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah" was released in 1991, marking the third installment in Toho's Heisei Godzilla series. In the film, three time travelers journey back to 1944 to eliminate the Godzillaaurus on Lagos Island, preventing Godzilla from ever appearing, in an attempt to eradicate what would become humanity's greatest future enemy. However, this inadvertently allowed King Ghidorah to become humanity's primary threat. This product is based on the latter half of the film, where the Godzillaaurus, dormant at the bottom of the sea, absorbs the immense energy from the Teiyo Group's nuclear submarine "Musashi II" and is resurrected as Godzilla. The nuclear submarine's energy makes the revived Godzilla even larger and more powerful than before, landing in Hokkaido like an inevitable disaster to battle King Ghidorah.
This "Heat Ray Godzilla Hokkaido Ver. (1991)" stands approximately 18 cm tall and is a modification of the previous Toho Godzilla debut in the series, "Godzilla Hokkaido Ver.". The exquisite sculpting brings out the robust musculature beneath Heisei Godzilla's thick hide, and the head sculpt faithfully recreates the famous punk-rock hairstyle from his Hokkaido landing. The meticulous paint application reproduces the yellowish claws on his hands and feet! The biggest difference from the previous version is that the dorsal fins are made of translucent material and painted with a blue gradient symbolizing energy. Coupled with the included heat ray effect part, it perfectly recreates his powerful attack pose. It can be displayed alongside King Ghidorah, also set for release in Q1 2025, to recreate the iconic battle scene in Hokkaido from the film!
