Released by the HOBBY Division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company, the "RG (Real Grade)" Gunpla series, which incorporates exterior armor, internal frames, interlocking armor, and new technologies into 1/144 scale models, today announced the latest product from "Mobile Suit Gundam": the "RG 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.2.0 Weapon Set", scheduled for release in August 2024. This product will be exclusively sold at Bandai's official online store PREMIUM BANDAI and the Gundam flagship store THE GUNDAM BASE.
The "RG 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.2.0", officially launching on August 10, 2024, has been thoroughly developed and produced with the latest modern technology, featuring entirely new sculpting and articulation designs compared to the version released 14 years ago. It also incorporates design concepts from the highly popular 1/60 scale Gunpla, the "PG UNLEASHED 1/60 RX-78-2 Gundam", boasting the same semi-monocoque fuselage structure. It is assembled layer by layer, from the movable frame and truss to the exterior armor, and utilizes precise part separation and color division techniques to create distinct color variations and rich layering for different sections of the parts, resulting in an ultra-high-precision internal frame structure.
This separately sold "Weapon Set" complements the "RG 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.2.0", which originally only included a Beam Rifle, Beam Saber, Hyper Bazooka, and Shield, with a richer array of armaments. The set includes the Gundam Hammer, Beam Javelin, Super Napalm, an additional Hyper Bazooka, a Beam Saber with a curved blade, and a display stand. Notably, the chain parts of the Gundam Hammer are produced with integrated injection molding, allowing them to be freely bent and posed after being cut from the runner, perfectly recreating dynamic throwing poses.
