The renowned Japanese toy company MEDICOM TOY is scheduled to release a soft vinyl toy of the Iron Man from Fujiko F. Fujio-sensei's early SF short story "I Picked Up an Iron Man" in August 2024! The price will be 19,800 JPY.
"I Picked Up an Iron Man" (鉄人をひろったよ) is a science fiction short story solely penned by Hiroshi Fujimoto, published in July 1983 under the name "Fujiko Fujio" in the magazine "BIG COMIC". Initially 18 pages long, it was later revised to 25 pages when collected into a tankōbon edition. The story primarily narrates how an elderly salaryman, on his way home from work, is entrusted with a remote control by a blood-soaked person. Unexpectedly, the remote control summons a mysterious Iron Man, which seems to move according to the remote. While the old man was pondering how to deal with it, he accidentally activated the Iron Man, causing it to mistakenly believe it needed to smash the neighbor's house...

This Iron Man soft vinyl toy, released by MEDICOM TOY, is a materialized product of the Iron Man from the aforementioned short story. Its primary color is black, and it stands approximately 25 cm tall, roughly 1/6th the scale of the original work. Its design evokes the style of Mazinger Z and the appearance of Tetsujin 28. It is scheduled for limited release at the "Fujiko F. Fujio Museum" in Kawasaki City and on the MCT TOKYO website.
