The eleventh stop of "KAWS:HOLIDAY" is about to land in the vibrant international metropolis—Shanghai! Renowned artist KAWS and his long-time partner AllRightsReserved will present a brand-new form of his iconic character, COMPANION, at Shanghai's famous landmark—the North Bund waterfront. It will be a large-scale inflatable art installation, leisurely reclining, embracing the moon, and gazing up at the sky. Coinciding with the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, the artwork embarks on an artistic and cultural journey through this traditional festival with thousands of years of history.
Exhibition organizer AllRightsReserved once again collaborates with JFJ Productions, who has been cordially invited as the co-organizer for the Shanghai stop. The artwork is the first-ever illuminated sculpture in the "KAWS:HOLIDAY" series, echoing the Mid-Autumn Festival's tradition of hanging lanterns and praying for blessings. Since 2018, the "KAWS:HOLIDAY" world tour has visited various cities, including Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Bristol, Singapore, Melbourne, Yogyakarta, and the famous scenic spot Changbai Mountain, and has even traveled to outer space, receiving enthusiastic responses from art lovers worldwide. This time, it is set to land in the "Magic City" of Shanghai to continue its journey of leisure and relaxation. AllRightsReserved invites everyone to stop and admire the sculpture against the dazzling and enchanting Shanghai skyline, witnessing a one-of-a-kind artistic experience.
A Sneak Peek at the "KAWS:HOLIDAY" Shanghai Exclusive Limited-Edition Series
To celebrate the grand opening of "KAWS:HOLIDAY" Shanghai, KAWS has teamed up with AllRightsReserved to launch a series of exclusive collectibles, including the highly anticipated limited-edition "COMPANION" collection. This series of "COMPANION" figures measures approximately 9.5 inches long and comes in classic brown, black, and gray. A special feature is that the moon component and the printing on the outer box are both made with glow-in-the-dark material. The limited-edition hoodie also features a thoughtful detail: reflective material has been added to parts of the print on the back for an enhanced effect.
These precious collectibles will be available starting from 8:30 PM (Beijing Time) on August 28, 2024, at the Jing An Kerry Centre pop-up store in Shanghai. They will also be exclusively available for pre-order on the DDT Store starting at 10:00 PM (Beijing Time) on the same day, with shipping to begin in September.
