American toy brand Sideshow Collectibles, known for its Scum & Villainy series featuring various interesting supporting characters from "Star Wars," this time, in addition to "Greedo," has also unveiled another new product—"Ponda Baba." With a suggested retail price of US$275, both a regular and a limited edition will be released simultaneously, with an estimated shipping window between May and August 2025!
Ponda Baba first appeared in the 1977 "Star Wars" film, as an Aqualish thug who, along with his accomplice Dr. Cornelius Evazan, was involved in spice smuggling for Jabba. In the film's scene at the Mos Eisley Cantina on Tatooine, Ponda Baba spoke to Luke in Aqualish, saying "Negola dewaghi wool dugger?", which Cornelius then translated into Galactic Basic Standard as "He doesn't like you." Before the altercation could escalate, the elderly Obi-Wan intervened with his lightsaber, resulting in Ponda Baba's arm being cleanly severed. Later comics also depicted Cornelius attempting to reattach Ponda Baba's arm with his own skills, but he failed, almost costing Ponda Baba his life.
This Ponda Baba 1/6 scale collectible figure stands approximately 30 cm tall, and is crafted to replicate his appearance in the Mos Eisley Cantina. His orange jacket, shirt, and pants are made from fabric materials, and his distinctive face is sculpted with meticulous detail, featuring black bulging eyes, a full beard, and even the delicate blood vessels on his uniquely shaped pink tusks on his chin are faithfully reproduced! Accessories include a blaster pistol, a holster, and three sets of interchangeable hands. The limited edition further includes his webbed hands, which he reveals when relaxed, including a webbed hand accessory capable of holding the blaster pistol, adding significant playability!
The characters in the Scum & Villainy series are all lined up as the galaxy's most notorious villains, making us highly anticipate which other interesting characters will appear next!
