Studio Ghibli's official specialty store, "Acorn Republic," has launched "Everyone's Kusakabe House (tentative translation, みんなの草壁家)," a miniature model house based on the super popular film "My Neighbor Totoro"! The Kusakabe house has been transformed into a mini model. The suggested retail price is 48,400 JPY, and it was released in July 2024!

Directed by Hayao Miyazaki and released in 1988 by Studio Ghibli and Tokuma Shoten, the animated film "My Neighbor Totoro" is set in rural Japan during the Showa era. The Kusakabe family moves to an old house next to a large forest for their ailing mother, where daughters Satsuki and Mei encounter the forest guardians—Totoro, Chibi-Totoro (小トトロ), Catbus, and other mysterious creatures. The fantastical story, lovable characters, simple life, and depiction of natural scenery have made this work one of Master Hayao Miyazaki's most classic creations!

Acorn Republic's "Everyone's Kusakabe House" meticulously recreates the somewhat unusual old house from the film in a miniature size of approximately 27 cm in height and 53 cm in width! Based thoroughly on designs from the movie, books, and Ghibli Park's "Satsuki and Mei's House," it took two years to remodel. The main house structure faithfully reproduces the connected study, main building (母屋棟), kitchen, and bathroom. The roof is designed to be detachable, allowing a direct view of the floor plan and detailed appreciation of the interior from various angles. Some doors and windows can also be opened! Exploring this house in detail, you might, like Mei and Satsuki, discover some unexpected surprises? It will absolutely satisfy Totoro fans!

To convey the house's antique and aged atmosphere, special weathering treatments for deformation, fading, and damage have been applied to the roof tiles, rain gutters, and other areas. Even the impressive, creaking wooden pillar details are vividly reproduced, immediately bringing to mind scenes of Mei and Satsuki playing here.
▼Where is Chibi-Totoro hiding?

▼The hand pump is also operable!

▼The entrance door slides open~

▼Chibi-Totoro escapes under the floor... If you squat down from Mei's perspective, you might find empty cans and soda bottles hidden underneath, or perhaps something else is hiding here?

▼Flip the switch, and the lights in the Japanese-style room and tea room will illuminate! Emitting a warm ambiance~

▼Mei's hat is also placed in the cabinet.

▼There's an acorn on the stairs leading to the attic! Who dropped it here?

▼The wall crack where Soot Sprites emerge when poked! It's also meticulously recreated!

▼The clock in the tea room points to "4:16". Toy collectors who love "My Neighbor Totoro" will surely appreciate this clever detail!

▼Dad's study, in addition to being filled with books, even includes the flower wreath Mei made for him~

▼The bathroom is adorned with charming tiles, exuding a retro and rustic feel~ The bathtub lid can also be lifted, bringing to mind scenes of the family bathing together!

"Living in this house has been Dad's dream since childhood. As long as we laugh together, the fear will disappear~ Wahahahahahahaha!"
