US toy manufacturer NECA recently unveiled a series of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed products launched at the well-known US retailer Target. This article will focus on the "Slash" 7-inch action figure two-pack, with a suggested retail price of US$34.99, now available at Target stores!
Slash first appeared in the 1987 animated series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Season 4, Episode 20, "Slash - The Evil Turtle From Dimension X." He was originally Bebop's secretly kept pet turtle. Bebop and Rocksteady, wanting someone to help them clean the Technodrome, secretly mutated him into a mutant turtle behind Shredder and Krang's backs. Unexpectedly, he later disobeyed Bebop and was teleported to Earth, where he demonstrated overwhelming strength, easily defeating the Ninja Turtles four-on-one in their first encounter.
This re-released Slash 7-inch action figure appears to partially reuse the 2022 Archie Comics version. It features a brand new head sculpt based on the animated design. Overall, compared to the Slash released in the 2020 two-pack with Leatherhead, this version is larger in size and more robust in build, with more vibrant coloring.
In terms of accessories, in addition to two sets of interchangeable hands and an alternate head with a protruding tongue, the absolutely essential "Binky" (the plastic palm tree), Slash's favorite thing in the world, is included. This time, it's made of a harder plastic material and comes with a bowl-shaped base, recreating its appearance when he finally found it in a spaceship's junk pile during his first appearance! The weapons complement those included in previous versions, which he used when he returned smarter after being modified by aliens in Season 6, Episode 11, "Donatello Trashes Slash." These include a pistol-type anti-gravity ray gun, gravity missiles used in the show to seal off buildings, and a freeze gun capable of blowing blizzards. The backpack, also included this time, has been enlarged to match the body's proportion, while the original turtle-form mini-Slash has been shrunk even smaller, making him appear even more imposing by comparison!
